Miscellaneous

Miscellaneous brings together individual works that develop outside the structure of the established series. They begin through a combination of inspiration and experimentation, often initiated by a visual expression imagined before the work begins but not fully materialised. That initial idea provides a direction rather than a fixed outcome, allowing the painting to develop intuitively as colour, movement and the behaviour of acrylic begin to influence the composition.

Across the works, flowing colour, changes in density and subtle surface effects create different relationships between depth, energy and space. Some compositions are quieter and more atmospheric, while others carry a stronger sense of movement or intensity. Forms can appear familiar without becoming fully defined, creating moments of recognition that remain deliberately open. This ambiguity allows the viewer to form their own connections rather than being directed towards a particular subject or meaning.

The works also provide room to explore possibilities that may not belong within an existing series. Different approaches to colour, fluidity, layering and surface can be developed independently, without the need for one work to follow the visual structure of another. Despite their differences, they remain connected through the same intuitive and material-led approach that runs throughout my practice.

Each work therefore stands independently, while also forming part of an ongoing process of exploration. Some ideas remain unique to a single painting; others may suggest new directions and create possibilities for further development.
